Transition to Web-based News

  • Published
The following is a question to the 92 Air Refueling Wing Commander submitted by a member of Team Fairchild or the local community:

Question:
I am concerned that if you take the newspaper away, many of the retirees in all branches of the service won't have a way of knowing what is happening on the base. I believe the majority of retirees do not have a computer at home.

Answer:
Moving from a paper-based newspaper to a Web-based product is a big change for everyone involved. First of all, I would like to offer my understanding and apologies to those who are having a hard time with the switch from paper to Web.

The transition to Web-based news, however, is no longer the wave of the future - it is the present. Air Force bases around the world are making this transition to timely, easily accessible electronic news and information.

To help those who have Web access but are still uncomfortable navigating the Internet, here are some simple instructions for receiving updated Fairchild news in your inbox every week:
- Send an e-mail to Fairchild.Connection@fairchild.af.mil. Type 'Sign me up for the e-Connection' into the e-mail. The public affairs staff will immediately place you on the e-Connection distribution list.
- When you receive your e-Connection e-mail, simply click on a story link. (Make sure you're logged into and connected to your Internet service.) The link will take you directly to the Fairchild Web site and e-Connection news.
- Once you're in the site, you can add it to your favorites for easy access later. At the top of the Web page, click Favorites, then Add to Favorites, then OK. From then on, the Fairchild Web site will be listed under your favorites, just a click away.

For those who don't own a computer and travel to the base each week for a newspaper, the Fairchild Retiree Activity Office can help you get your Fairchild news. You can reach the office by calling 247-5359.

Thank you for your continued support of Fairchild and your interest in base news. We want to make this transition as easy as possible for everyone. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.
