Fairchild spouses spread cookies, candy, cheer

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  The Officers’ Spouses’ Club partnered with the Enlisted Spouses’ Club for the annual Operation Cookie Drop at the base chapel Dec. 11. The clubs’ members came together in hopes of easing the homesickness Airmen feel when they are unable to travel home for the holidays.

“I’ve been doing the cookie drop for 12 years,” said Libby Moore, OSC scholarship program manager. “It all started because we wanted the Airmen in the dorms to have something from home, to know that we are thinking of them and that we care.”

In preparation for Operation Cookie Drop, officer and enlisted spouses were asked to bake four dozen cookies each to pack bags for Airmen living in the dorms. Once the bags were filled with homemade treats, they were distributed to 92nd Air Refueling Wing and the 336th Training Group Airmen.

“Spouses are asked to help, but we never know who is able to get involved,” said Lori Haas, OSC member. “I was impressed with the turnout of cookies and helpers. I had expected it to be me and five other ladies, but it was like an army of spouses.”

This year, officer and enlisted spouses baked more than 187 dozen holiday cookies and packed more than 600 bags of treats and cheer.
