Members of the 92nd Mission Support Group and their families participated in the second 92nd MSG Fun Day Feb. 24, at Fairchild Air Force Base.

The day-long event included numerous activities to provide 92nd MSG Airmen and their families a healthy community and safe environment to grow and bond.

“Having fun days boosts morale, helps with stress and focuses on team building with all members of 92nd MSG,” said Airman 1st Class Kayeon Lee, 92nd Force Support Squadron personnel journeyman. “It allows us to get out of the office and meet other Airmen from different career fields and different squadrons.”

The event kicked-off with a 5K fun run at Miller Park, where more than 50 Airmen showed up to race. Following the race, the fitness center hosted a dodge ball and basketball tournament for those who preferred to stay out of the cold.

A themed cook-off was held at the Red Morgan Center and included southern “comfort” food, Italian food, a chili cook-off, barbeque food, Mexican food and a “sweet tooth” dessert cook-off. Col. Yvonne Spencer, 92nd MSG commander, was joined by squadron commanders and chiefs in tasting more than 30 dishes that filled the RMC ballroom.

“Fun Day events give Airmen a chance to let their hair down, reach across squadrons and get to know their teammates,” Spencer said. “It gives us a chance to reinforce teamwork, have a little bit of friendly competition and focus on family. We don’t retain Airmen, we retain families. ”

The 92nd MSG Fun Day is a quarterly event organized by a NCO or CGO to help them further develop leadership skills and push them out of their comfort zone. The organizer rotates among the various 92nd MSG squadrons including the 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron, 92nd FSS, 92nd Security Forces Squadron, 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron, 92nd Contracting Squadron and 92nd Communication Squadron.

Following the cook-off, trophies were awarded to the winners of the events throughout the day with 92nd LRS driving home the dodge ball tournament trophy and 92nd FSS frying up a cook-off win.
