Healthier, made-to-order upgrades come to Fairchild dining experience

Fairchild’s Warrior and Ross Mission Essential Feeding Facilities are in for some upgrades this March.

The Warrior and Ross facilities will expand on the standard Food Transformation Initiative operation to become the third base in the Air Force to incorporate the healthier and cost saving Super Sonic Subs, CIAO Pizza and Big City Grill.

“We are re-branding the MEFFs, providing fresher, made-to-order options,” said Tony Elliott, 92nd Force Support Squadron executive chef. “These three new stations will enhance our current operations and allow our Airmen to focus on the basics of food preparation, including presentation.”

The Super Sonic Subs station will resemble a civilian sub shop with daily fresh made bread, more meat, vegetable and sauce options and also the choice to toast the sandwich after it’s built. Airmen will have the option to build their own sandwich or order one off the menu.

CIAO Pizza will replace the current limited pizza options with a made-to-order station with more than 25 different toppings to choose from to build a personalized 10-inch pizza. After building the pizza, it’s thrown into a pizza oven and comes out fresh in under two and a half minutes.

“If the current pizza station goes untouched by the end of the meal, we’re throwing away pizza,” said Staff. Sgt. Christopher Chancellor, 92nd FSS chef supervisor. “These upgrades will bring in healthier, more diverse options and also cut down on our waste.”

The Big City Grill is going to expand on current grill choices to include fish fillet sandwiches, more dressings and diverse toppings.

The appetizing new upgrades are fresh, made-to-order and will give the MEFFs a fresh look and enhance the integrity of the food and service, Elliott said.

With more efficient stations, savory options and a fresh new look, the 92nd FSS hopes to overcome the military “chow hall” stigma and give delicious food back to the Airmen.
