Adam Fillman Unit of assignment: 92nd Maintenance Squadron Duty title: Metals Technology Journeyman Hometown and state: Alpharetta, Georgia What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild Air Force Base? I work in the fabrication flight metals technology section. We maintain 35 KC-135 Stratotankers, three UH-1N Iroquois helicopters, and 493 pieces of aerospace ground equipment by operating manual/computer numerical controlled lathes, mills and precision measuring tools. We also design and manufacture non-procurable and non-aircraft parts by utilizing technical orders or blue prints. Finally, we weld, braze, forge, heat treat and solder metal alloys. What do you enjoy about your job? I love learning a new skill, specifically computer-aided design software. I enjoy operating the CNC machines and the water jet. I love nothing more than training a new Airman and then watching them succeed. Why did you choose to serve in the military? I wanted to save lives. Time in military: Five years. What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at Fairchild AFB? Set a speed record on Mount Rainer, Washington, run a 100-mile marathon, get a bachelor's degree in math and possibly commission as an officer. Hobbies: Running ultramarathons, math homework and song writing. Your best habit: I have the great habit of being positive. Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
