Fairchild held its First Annual All-Star Softball Game and Home Run Derby here June 18. The event, arranged by the 92nd Force Support Squadron and held at the base's Softball Field #4, was to celebrate the achievements of the highest-performing softball players from the 2016 intramural season. This year's season had 13 teams, all representing different squadrons on base.

"Nobody has ever done this before," said Janmichael Obiniana, 92nd FSS sports program manager. "This is meant to promote camaraderie, with this celebration of the season. Next week is the playoffs, so it's back to business and competition."

The home run derby preceded the baseball game, and was ultimately won by Senior Airman Adam Watford, 92nd Medical Support Squadron pharmacy technician. He earned four home runs in the championship round of the derby.

"We're presenting an opportunity to have a friendly game," said Airman 1st Class Andre Davis, 92nd FSS fitness specialist. "The players finally get to have fun, which really is a boost to morale."

Though the base experienced precipitation earlier in the day, there were mostly clear skies for the matchup, so Airmen's bats got to swing unimpeded by rain.

The Blue Team ultimately bested the Red Team 12-10.
