    Resiliently driving toward victory

    A golfer sets his ball on the starting tee and looks over the meticulously manicured grass toward the goal; the four-inch hole is hundreds of yards away. Each of the 18 starting tees offered another opportunity for the golfer to move up in the rankings toward being selected to compete in the 7th Conseil International du Sport Militaire Military World Games. That achievement was recently accomplished by a Fairchild Airman who competed alongside 33 other U.S. military members during the 2019 Armed Forces Golf Championship.

    18th AF, Fairchild key spouses address education partnerships, license reciprocity

    Moving to a new area presents unique challenges to military families. Spouses often need to look for new jobs, children move to new schools and the support networks families have relied on change with new scenery. Key Spouses are one resource the Air Force calls on to offer support to families throughout arrival, transition and establishment at their new assignments.

    Fairchild Airmen enhance deployment line, save countless man hours

    As the world modernizes around us, a culture of innovation has swept through the Air Force, encouraging Airmen to enhance nearly every part of our mission. That culture is no different at Fairchild, where a dedicated team of Airmen found ways to save both manpower and time. Newly implemented Weigh-In-Motion scales expedite cargo deployment functions with a more accurate and efficient process, as part of Team Fairchild’s Continuous Process Improvement efforts.

    Masters of the Art: 70 years of setting the foundation, still leading the charge

    The 93rd Air Refueling Squadron has stood the test of time through two relocations and a change of mission set and has continued their legacy as the first air refueling squadron to pave the way for Team Fairchild as the premier air refueling base. The 93rd ARS was established only two years after the Air Force was founded. They gathered to celebrate their 70th anniversary and honor their history on March 29, 2019.

    AFREP: turning trash to treasure for Green in 19

    The 92nd Maintenance Group Air Force Repair Enhancement Program is ran by Airmen who take pride in contributing to the “Green in 19” initiative by restoring what would be waste into money-saving treasure. These professionals are a select group of Air Force experts who use their wide-range of skills and resources to tinker with assets that would otherwise be tossed away, giving other Air Force units the chance to save time and money.

    A survivor’s story: colon cancer

    The taste of metal filled his mouth as an icy current numbed his fingers and toes. The chemotherapy machine hummed sharply beside the bed, draining the medicine into his blood stream to attack the sickness manifesting in his body. It was March 10, 2018, when Christopher Hicks was diagnosed with stage-three colon cancer.

    Mental Health keeps Airmen mission ready

    Team Fairchild’s 92nd Medical Group Mental Health Clinic is readily available to aid Airmen while they face the demands and stressors that accompany the commitment of service before self, from deployments during the holidays to packing boxes for permanent change of station moves. The Mental Health Clinic’s mission is to influence healthy lifestyles within the base community by promoting positive relationships, providing treatment and preventing unhealthy behavior or mental status to ensure Airmen maintain mission readiness.

    Fairchild Airmen compete for German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge

    Nineteen Fairchild Airmen competed for the coveted German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge Nov. 17-18, at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. The GAFPB is a decoration of the Bundeswehr, the unified armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, and can be awarded to German and allied soldiers of any rank. In the U.S. Armed Forces, the GAFPB is one of the few approved foreign awards authorized to be worn on uniforms, making it one of the most sought after achievements.

    Keeping Fairchild’s mission loaded

    Team Fairchild doesn’t just enable Rapid Global Mobility through in-flight refueling, they are also highly trained in aeromedical evacuation, and cargo and passenger transport. Continuous cargo-load training keeps Fairchild boom operators stay mission ready through routine cargo-load training on the KC-135 Stratotanker. While other agencies load and transport cargo regularly, cargo-load training is crucial for boom operators to safely load and secure cargo effectively when a KC-135 is tasked for a transport mission in addition to its primary in-flight refueling role.

    Domestic violence: a survivor’s story

    Trailing behind his group of friends, feelings of anxiety and fear crowded his adolescent mind with the question of what version of his father awaited him at home. It hadn’t always been unsafe or tense, but his father’s behavior had become a constant uncertainty. The loving provider who had sat at the head of the table was now condemning and destructive. This is one of the many strong memories Staff Sgt. Taylor Swartz, 22nd Training Squadron Survival Escape Resistance Evasion specialist, recalls from his domestic-violence filled family life in adolescence.
