Cambodian gunboats seized the U.S. merchant ship Mayaguez and its 40-man crew May 12, 1975, 60 miles from the Cambodian coast. In response, Military Airlift Command transported U.S. Marines and equipment from the Philippines and Okinawa to Thailand.
