Before going out and buying an unmanned aircraft system, also known as model aircraft or a drone, there are many safety guidelines that must be known and followed. The Federal Aviation Administration has partnered with several industry associations to promote Know Before You Fly, a campaign to educate the public about using unmanned aircraft safely and responsibly. Some of the guidelines include: don’t fly within five miles of an airport, don’t fly above 400 feet, and keep the UAS in eyesight at all times.
