Fairchild Airman Wins Achieving Culinary Excellence Challenge Including Internship With Local Chef
Senior Airman Dean Tagalan, a Warrior Dining Facility shift worker assigned to the 92nd Force Support Squadron, salts butternut squash during an Achieving Culinary Excellence challenge at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, Dec. 19, 2023. The ACE challenge is an opportunity for Airmen to showcase their culinary skills by competing against other Airmen in their trade. This iteration of the challenge involved Airmen utilizing a ‘mystery box’ of ingredients and creating a three serving meal within a 60-minute time constraint. After cooking and plating their meals, three judges from Fairchild AFB and Spokane rated each Airman’s meal and decided which one stood out the most based on factors like creativity, plate presentation and flavor profiling.
