Fairfield’s 104th Flag Day honors military sacrifice
Col. Brian Newberry and his wife, Jill, ride in the 104th Fairfield Flag Day parade in Fairfield, Wash., June 14, 2014. Fairfield’s event is the longest running consecutive Flag Day celebration in the nation. Each year, the venue includes music, entertainment, food, kiddie games and arts and crafts vendors. Flag Day is celebrated each year on June 14 commemorating the adoption of the American flag by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. Strong supporters of the military, Fairfield residents have ensured their Flag Day celebration depicts the strategic importance of “Old Glory” and everything it stands for. Newberry accepted their invitation as honorary grand marshal as thanks for their unwavering support for his Airmen and military members around the world.
