Maj. Gen. Randall Kitchens, Department of the Air Force chief of chaplains, coins Airman 1st Class Krista Barrett, a fuel systems journeyman assigned to the 92nd Maintenance Squadron, at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, Sept. 25, 2023. Barrett received a coin for volunteering over 100 hours assisting with chapel events and church services. Kitchens and Chief Master Sgt. Sadie Chambers, DAF religious affairs senior enlisted advisor, toured facilities on base and met with Airmen to see the impact the chapel team has on the morale and quality life of Airmen. A formation of survival, evasion, resistance and escape candidates complete the first leg of a 24-hour ruck march in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day outside of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3386 in Airway Heights, Washington, Sept. 14, 2023. During the ruck march, Airmen from Fairchild Air Force Base kept the POW/MIA flag in constant motion. The ruck march began on Sept. 14 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in downtown Spokane and continued through Airway Heights before concluding at Fairchild AFB. The event culminated with a recognition ceremony on Sept. 15 to honor all American prisoners of war and those Americans still missing in action, as well as their families. Every year, the third Friday in September is recognized in the United States as National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
