Fairchild's Finest is a weekly recognition program that highlights top-performing members of Team Fairchild.

Rank/Name:
Senior Airman Colby Kurtzman

Unit of assignment:
92nd Communications Squadron

Duty title:
Cyber Transport Technician

Hometown and state:
Phoenix, Arizona

What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild Air Force Base?
I configure, deploy and maintain unclassified and classified network equipment for Fairchild.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy everything I do from configuring our network equipment to connecting with others from different squadrons. Best of all, I love learning new things about the equipment I work on every day and finding ways to make it better.

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
I wanted to challenge myself to excel in ways I never thought possible.

Family:
Married with no children to Senior Airman Jessica Kurtzman

Time in military:
Four and a half years.

What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at Fairchild AFB?
While here at Fairchild, I want to obtain my Cisco Certified Network Apprentice (CCNA) certification and continue forward on obtaining my bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Hobbies:
Hobbies that I have are working on cars, flying and driving remote controlled helicopters, airplanes, cars and boats, working out, and playing sports.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
My favorite mentor was my first superintendent, Master Sgt. Flores. He taught me how to be self-sufficient in my line of work and never handed out answers. If he asked me a question that I did not know, I had to find the answer and get back to him before the day's end.

What others are saying about this week's Fairchild Finest:
"Senior Airman Kurtzman was selected for Fairchild's Finest because he has stepped up to fill a staff sergeant position as a senior airman. Any task handed to him was completed in a timely manner. He has become the "go to" Airman of infrastructure." Tech. Sgt. Phillip Henderson, 92nd Communication Squadron network operations section chief.
