A safety message to bring in the new year

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --

Team Fairchild,

I hope the Holiday Season has given you and your family some well earned time to relax so far. With the New Year's three-day weekend approaching, I'd like to remind you to maintain your situational awareness, especially on the roads. If you have further travel plans, prepare for icy conditions, pack an emergency roadside kit and practice general road safety.

If you plan to participate in New Year's festivities away from your home and drink alcohol, have a plan and a wingman to return safely. If for whatever reason those fall through, the wing's new Airman Against Drunk Driving program is up and running, and I expect you to call (509) 389-2194.

Please safely enjoy yourselves this weekend and be ready to continue our amazing work in 2012. Happy New Year.
