Philanthropy...Not just for Bill Gates Published Sept. 17, 2012 By Master Sgt. Hikmat Hanna 92nd Operations Support Squadron Aviation Resource Management FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- We often hear about people who have accumulated vast amounts of wealth who then turn their life's efforts to charity work across the world. That's really inspirational and pretty impressive. We shouldn't forget, when we band together, we "common folk" can really make a difference too. We may not make headlines, but that doesn't matter to those we help. There are many who serve food to the hungry, paint schools or clean up a beach because they want to make a difference. What many of us don't realize is an opportunity comes around every year that allows us to do just that. The Combined Federal Campaign raises more than a quarter of a billion dollars each year. What makes this possible is the generosity of federal employees who voluntarily donate for a good cause. We've all heard about the cup of coffee that saves the world right? "For the price of a cup of coffee, you can change the world." It's true. It's simple and convenient to give. Payroll deduction lets you spread your contribution across the entire year. As little as $2 a month really helps! That gives your charity a steady source of revenue annually. It has low overhead costs, so more money goes directly to your charity. Giving is good in and of itself, but it also shows that federal employees care about our communities. Come join us as we kick off Team Fairchild's CFC this year. Together, we can make a difference. On Sept. 28, the CFC will kick off with a burger burn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hangar 2 and at the Funspot during Friday Night Frenzy from 4 to 10 p.m. For more information, please contact your CFC representatives.
