92nd AMDS guidon passes to newly arrived commander

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  Lt. Col. Ken "Bones" Bode assumed command of the 92nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron during a ceremony July 27 at the Red Morgan Center.

Bode joins Team Fairchild after serving as commander of the 8th Medical Operations Squadron, Kunsan Air Base, South Korea.

"I would like to share some of my leadership philosophy which includes innovation and being 'WISE,'" Bode said. "WISE includes our Air Force Core Values of Wingmen who live by Integrity first, Service before self and Excellence in all we do. Since I'm a surgeon, what I mean by excellence in all we do is 'do it right or do it again.'

"I have three assurances I want to impart: first, to the Airmen of the 92nd AMDS, I will lead from the front with bold leadership. Of even more importance, I will lead with servant leadership since I am here to serve you. Second, I will teach you what it means to have grit. Psychologists have stated that grit is perseverance and passion. Finally, to the wing, I will ensure that you have medically ready forces and that the medics are ready medical forces."

Bode commissioned in 1999 at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He also holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, Maryland.

His decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster and an Air Force Achievement Medal.

The 92nd Medical Group commander, Col. Margaret Carey, was the officiating officer for the ceremony.
