92nd AMXS welcomes new commander

92nd AMXS command changes hands

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash -- Lt. Col. Leonard Shores assumed command of the 92nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron from Lt. Col. James Dorn, during a ceremony held here, July 7.

Shores was previously the 92nd Maintenance Squadron commander, the 92nd MXS main mission is to focus on the back shops while the 92nd AMXS works directly on the aircraft.

Dorn will leave the 92nd AMXS to hold a staff position at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

“I am honored to have been the 92nd AMXS commander for the last two years,” Dorn said. “I know the squadron will be in good hands.”

Shores enlisted in the Air Force in 1996 as an F-15 crew chief. He commissioned in 2000 and has since held various positions in maintenance units.

“In 2004, as an aircraft maintenance unit officer in charge, I was asked what my long term goal was by my AMXS commander,” Shores said. “I told him, 'his chair.' Today I get to meet that goal. I commit right now to do everything possible to provide you the tools, training and environment for future success.”

Shores has more than 19 years of aircraft maintenance expirence on the F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, E-3 Sentry, HH-60 Pave Hawk and KC-135 Stratotanker.

This is Shores’ third assignment as a squadron commander.
