Nashville singer-songwriter and "American Idol" winner David Cook, visited here to perform a free concert for the Airmen and their families May 26.

Cook has performed for U.S. troops at military installations around the world including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, the Persian Gulf and across Europe.

"We get to see a lot of bases we otherwise would never see," Cook said. "Playing overseas is like bringing them a little slice of home."

Fairchild is one of 16 military installations Cook will be playing at during his 2016 tour, spanning from May to September. The concerts are sponsored by Air Force Entertainment, a branch within the Air Force Services Activity which provides centrally-managed entertainment opportunities for Airmen.

"Capping off the day before a Memorial Day weekend, with a concert by an American Idol star like David Cook, is what I would call a phenomenal day for Team Fairchild!" said Col. Matthew Fritz, 92nd Air Refueling Wing vice commander.  "I'm thrilled to welcome David Cook to our base and show him Team Fairchild!"

During his visit, Cook met with local media for short interview before the concert. Then held a meet and greet to interact with Team Fairchild members.

"It is so inspiring to be able to see the strong sense of family around the base," Cook said. "It is such an honor to be here and I want to thank all the members for their service!"
