Jeanne Roquet 92nd Security Forces Squadron FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Fairchild AFB is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take Back Day at the Exchange main lobby on Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A drop box will be located in the Exchange's main lobby for a no hassle, no questions asked disposal. Drug Take Back Day allows Fairchild DOD cardholder's an opportunity to safely dispose of their unused medications including controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medications. Participants are reminded not to dispose of needles or other sharp objects. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Prescription drugs that languish in home medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. According to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high; more Americans (6.8 million) currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens like LSD and inhalants (sniffed household products) combined. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
