Find big holiday savings at your commissary

October represents the unofficial start to the holiday season for commissary customers who want to save more than their usual 30 percent or more.

"We're offering daily specials throughout our stores and seasonal club packs at great savings for the upcoming holidays," said Tracie Russ, the Defense Commissary Agency's director of sales. During October, DeCA's industry partners - vendors, suppliers and brokers - are collaborating with commissaries to offer discounts beyond everyday savings.

Patrons are also reminded to continually check the DeCA website, www.commissaries.com, select the "Shopping" link and click on the "Sales & Events" tab for the latest promotions.

Customers are asked to check their local commissary for details on dates and times for all promotions. To read the full release, visit

Giving 'gift of groceries'? Think Commissary Gift Cards

No matter the occasion, commissary gift cards are always available to help family members, friends and organizations give the gift of groceries.

Cards, which come in dominations of $25 and $50, can be purchased by anyone at any commissary worldwide or online. However, only an authorized patron can redeem them.

Here are some quick facts about the commissary gift card:
1) The cards are available at all commissaries worldwide - on a rack at full service, front-end registers - as well as through the DeCA website, http://www.commissaries.com;
2) The cards expire five years from the date of purchase;
3) Online orders incur a handling fee. These fees are not assessed to in-store orders;
4) There is no limit to the number of gift cards that a purchaser can buy. However, DeCA officials recommend organizations and activities consider purchasing online if they need $500 or more in gift cards;
5) Commissary gift cards can be shipped anywhere in the United States and to APO, FPO or DPO addresses.
