Fairchild hosts Army Ranger training

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  Army Rangers from the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord conducted a military training exercise at JBLM and here Oct. 6 to 17.

The 75th Ranger Regiment is a lethal, agile and versatile special operations force that conducts forcible entry operations and special operations raids across the entire spectrum of combat primarily conducted on the C-130 Hercules.

Army Rangers trained in darkness and used simulated munitions to make the exercise as realistic as possible. The exercise also tested the Rangers' combat skills.

Both JBLM and Fairchild officials coordinated the exercise.

"The benefit of this structure was that complementary forces such as the Army and Air Force worked together jointly to achieve their military objective rather than working and planning apart from each other," said Kurt Tempel, 92nd Air Refueling Wing exercise and plans wing treaty compliance office. "The synergy from this interaction maximized the operational capability of the participating players." 

Army Rangers participate in exercises periodically to maintain a high level of combat readiness.

Tracey Bailey, 75th Ranger Regiment deputy public affairs officer, said Fairchild was instrumental in providing the Rangers with a unique training opportunity.

"It's been several years since the Rangers have been to Fairchild, and the base's unique training areas made a huge impact to the requirements the Rangers need to maintain a high state of readiness," Bailey said. "The Rangers are always looking for different training areas that test their unique skill set and Fairchild exceeded the battalion's expectations."
