Fairchild Airmen, local community members train to become certified firefighters

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The West Plains Fire Academy held a multi-company training drill involving recruits and crew trainers from the local community and Fairchild Air Force Base Dec. 6 in Spokane Valley, Washington.

District 10, Airway heights and Medical Lake stations were part of the all-day training where 23 recruits ran into a four-story burning building and simulated rescuing victims.

The training was conducted as part of a four month curriculum and members who are currently in the course will graduate at the end of December with a Firefighter 1 national certification.
