Brace yourself, tax season is coming! Published Jan. 12, 2015 By Senior Airman Janelle Patiño 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- It's that time of year! The tax season kicks off Feb. 9 and ends April 8 here, and the Volunteer Tax Assistance program representatives are preparing to give the services needed to military members. The program will have various tax representatives who will be able to help with their respective squadrons. Airmen who volunteer go through training and tests to make sure they are well informed and ready to help customers out. "We are here to help each other and to make it easier for Airmen, each volunteer is assigned to their respective squadrons," said Capt. Catherine Santiago, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tax center representative. "Instead of having a centralized center, volunteers will be working in their work center to help more Airmen, especially those who work out on the flight line." Members eligible to use the base tax program include Active Duty members in the ranks of E-1 to E-6 and O-1 to O-2. Retirees are not eligible. Other resources available locally are: Cheney Library, Northeast Community Center, Spokane County United Way, Spokane Public Library, Spokane Moran Prairie Library, Spokane Valley Library, Deer Park City Library and Medical Lake City Hall. Santiago said it's encouraged for individuals to make sure they have all the information they need to file their taxes and do it as early as possible. "I suggest they do it early and avoid the hassle of having to pay penalty charges," she said. "Having everything in a folder will make it faster and easier to process." Here is a list on what to bring to your tax location: -2013 tax return -Valid picture identification -Social Security cards for you, spouse and all household members -All income statements, such as 2014 W-2s, 1098, 1099 forms for you and your spouse -Any Form 1095 - Health Insurance Marketplace Statement (if applicable) -Proof of other income from you or your spouse and banking information -Child care provider information -Property tax information if homeowner -Form 1098T and education express for students This year, the program will have 50 volunteers along with five to eight reviewers coming from the base's legal office.
