When it comes to contests, Retired Air Force Maj. Gerald Daub has luck on his side. When he saw an advertisement for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service's "Because of You" drawing, he knew he had to enter.

Daub, who served in the Air Force for 24 years, took home the contest's second prize--a $2,000 Exchange gift card. His entry was selected from more than 11,500 received online from Feb. 13 to Feb. 28.

"I had won a $100 gift card from the commissary a couple of years ago," Daub said. "When I saw this Exchange contest, I thought, 'Why not try again?' "

Daub, accompanied by his wife, Loy, received his prize during a presentation March 13 at the Fairchild Exchange. The contest was part of the Exchange's Because of You campaign, a yearlong effort to recognize and reward service members' sacrifice and dedication to our country.

"The Exchange is proud to honor Retired Maj. Daub for his service and sacrifice," said Fairchild Exchange Store Manager Jimmie Burris. "He and all who serve in the military deserve our gratitude for everything they do for our great nation."

During his career, Daub served at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., and Minot Air Force Base, N.D., spending the majority of his career at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

With his prize, Daub, who lives in Spokane, Wash., said he and his wife plan to buy household items.

"I did tell her to pick out something special so we have something to show for winning," he said.
