Annual AFAF campaign supports Airmen, families Published March 30, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Taylor Bourgeous 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund kicked off March 23 and will last until May 1. The AFAF is an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to Air Force families in need including; active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and dependents, including surviving spouses. The AFAF represents four charities: Air Force Village, Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village and the LeMay Foundation. "All funds raised in the AFAF directly go back to support Air Force personnel and their families in the form of emergency, educational or retiree support," said Capt. Ashton Miller, the AFAF installation project officer. The Air Force Village provides retirement living with access to continuing health care for retired Air Force officers and their spouses in need of financial assistance. The Air Force Aid Society provides emergency assistance to Airmen and their family members. Whether it is a death in the family, car repair, or basic living expenses, AFAS can help. The Air Force Enlisted Village provides a home to Air Force widows, moms of Active Duty or Retired Airmen, retired Air Force enlisted couples, surviving spouses of Airmen who have died while on Active Duty and widows and retired couples of other military services. The LeMay Foundation helps widows of all Air Force Retirees, both officers and enlisted, through financial grants of assistance. "I think the AFAF is a great option because it takes care of our Air Force family, both active and retired," said Miller. "You also never know when you, your wingman, or your Airman is going to need assistance from one of these organizations." The charitable affiliate organizations provide support in an emergency, with educational needs, or a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of the Air Force members in need of financial assistance.
