POV shipping season is upon us Published March 31, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Nicolo J. Daniello 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Permanent Change of Station season is about to hit Fairchild. Are you ready? Here are some tips and advice to keep in mind when shipping a privately owned vehicle. Peak season is from May to September and has a higher than normal rate of POV shipments. According to Staff Sgt. Shayla Spellmon, a 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron traffic management craftsman, customers need to plan ahead. It normally takes between four to six weeks for a POV to be shipped, but during peak season it can vary. "As soon as members get their PCS orders they need to stop by the Traffic Management Office," said 1st Lt. John Reinhardt, the 92nd LRS deployment and distribution flight commander. "Our office has a plethora of experience and information. We're here to help." TMO will assist customers with POV shipments and authorized Vehicle Processing Centers, which are the turn-in and pick-up locations for POVs. Customers can locate the nearest VPC, which for Fairchild is in Auburn, Washington, and track their POV shipment status on the International Auto Logistics Website, said Spellmon.Customers are entitled to turn their vehicle into the closest VPC location to their current duty station during their PCS. Spellmon went on discuss requirements that must be met when turning in a vehicle, including the POV being cleaned inside and out and having no more than a quarter tank of fuel. "When shipping a POV, plan for transportation back before the vehicle is dropped off," Spellmon advised. "If it's possible, get your car serviced near Auburn for top condition." Customers will be contacted by the destination VPC once their vehicle is available for pick-up, as well as if there are any issues during or after vehicle drop off or pick up. For more information on POV shipments contact your local VPC or visit the IAL website at https://www.pcsmypov.com.
