Dawn Altmaier, the 92nd Air Refueling Wing community support coordinator, spoke with students at Cheney High School during the Distributive Education Clubs of America class April 15.

"We discussed how our personalities, culture, and experiences contribute to us viewing situations differently from each other and how that can be beneficial to a classroom environment and a work center," she said.

Altmaier spoke about resiliency, diversity and conflict resolution explaining why all of these topics are important to them as students and employees.

"The goal is to give people the skills and tools to help themselves, loved ones and peers get through adverse situations," she said.

Each student was assigned to invite one guest speaker to talk with the class about the business they are a part of and explain why it is important and what impact they have on the community.

The students asked questions about her job, what made her decide to go into the Air Force and why she decided to stay with the Air Force after she retired.

"I chose to stay with the Air Force because I believe in the men and women who serve," said Altmaier. "Although I was ready to take off the uniform to provide stability for my family, I wasn't ready to stop taking care of Airmen."

Not only does she take care of Airmen and her family, but she's always looking for ways to give back to the community as demonstrated by her time in Cheney talking with the students about how Millennials are making a difference in the work force today and how each of their unique personality traits will help them succeed in the future, whether they see it now or not.
