Watch for signs of alcohol abuse Published April 16, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Taylor Bourgeous 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Every April, Alcohol Awareness Month raises awareness of the pitfalls associated with alcohol misuse while encouraging healthy, safe choices. For many people, alcohol minimally impacts everyday life when used responsibly, but for some, their drinking habits can negatively impact their family, work or health. "Drinking alone when feeling sad or angry is one sign of alcohol abuse, along with being late for work or forgetting what happened because of drinking," said Tech. Sgt. Benjamin K. Johns, 92nd Medical Group alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment NCO in charge. "It is important to be aware of the reasons behind consumption. Using it to manage or mask difficult emotions can and often leads to negative outcomes." Some ways to be responsible while drinking can be demonstrated by always having a plan, having a designated driver and limiting drinks and sticking to a limit. Another way is by calling Airmen Against Drunk Driving at (509)-389-2194. AADD sends someone to pick you up if your plan fails and will safely take you home. For an online screening, visit www.DrinkingIQ.org or for more local information on harmful drinking habits, contact Staff Sgt. Kassi Roquemore at (509) 247-2731.
