The 92nd Mission Support Group held a tour for its honorary commanders here Oct. 27.

The Honorary Commander Program's purpose is to partner with and educate influential members of the community on the similarities and differences of military and civilian operations. The program brings together leaders from the military and civilian communities together in an informal program designed to raise mutual understanding and establish bonds of friendship.

The honorary commanders for the 92nd MSG toured the MSG headquarters, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Individual Equipment, Combat Arms Training and Maintenance range and the base fire department.

"I think immersion tours with our community counterparts help foster tremendous partnership opportunities," said Lt. Col. Ross Gleason, 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron commander.

Honorary commanders are typically identified through community groups such as Greater Spokane Incorporated and other Chambers of Commerce. They are then partnered up with a base commander and are invited to squadron and base functions.

"It was an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to tour Fairchild," said Tim Ames, Medical Lake School District superintendent. "I was extremely impressed with the level of commitment and dedication the servicemen and servicewomen displayed as they shared their skills and talents."

The program helps community leaders learn the importance of the missions at the base, and get to know the Airmen who execute them.
