In honor of Veterans Day, Col. Brian McDaniel, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, and Col. Matthew Fritz, 92nd ARW vice commander, spoke at multiple events across Spokane County, Nov. 11.

Of the many events held, some included The Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, Felts Field, Fort George Wright Cemetery and the Spokane Veteran's Home.

"Spokane is not only notable for its support to the military, it's also notable as home to many veterans," said McDaniel. "All heroes in their own right."

Each Veterans Day, Americans have the opportunity to reflect upon and honor the sacrifices of noble men and women who have served in defense of our great nation and its freedom.

"America is fortunate to have service members who exemplify commitment to duty, willingly display valor under fire and favor humility over glory," said Fritz.

Veterans Day is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, which ended the First World War. In 1954, the Veterans Service Organization urged congress to change the word "Armistice" to "Veterans." Since then, Veterans Day became the day to honor all veterans, wherever and whenever they have served.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to thank the families, friends and members of the community that have shown tremendous support," said McDaniel. "Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do to make us feel welcome."
