Approximately 20 Airmen, consisting of five teams and about 7 different career fields, raced against the clock for the fastest KC-135 Stratotanker tire change during the 92nd Maintenance Group's first tire changing competition here April 22, 2016.

"We had different career fields on the flight line working as a team," said Master Sgt. Chad Gygi, 92nd MXG quality assurance chief inspector. "They showed that they were able to work as a team to change that tire."

Gygi went on to say that they wanted to encapsulate what the maintainers do on a daily basis and showcase their capabilities to Team Fairchild.

"This competition helps Airmen break away from normal day to day operations and in turn builds morale and camaraderie amongst our maintenance troops," said Lt. Col. Len Shores, 92nd Maintenance Squadron commander. "Col. [Alan] Hart, [92nd MXG commander] worked with his senior leadership to come up with ideas and created this competition for our Airmen. We want to continue to build this and numerous other competitions for all the Airmen to take part in."

According to Gygi they really want to propitiate this competition and get others involved in future events.

"We want them to have more pride and get more involved with their unit," said Gygi.

The winners were: 92nd Maintenance Squadron isochronal team with a time of 1:22.46 (1 hour, 22 minutes, 46 seconds) vs. a standard 3 hour ticket time.
