Airmen assigned to the 93rd Air Refueling Squadron volunteered to help make repairs to the home of a local family in need April 23, 2016, in Spokane, Washington.

"The 93rd decided six months ago we would like to volunteer one day this spring as a squadron," said Lt. Col. George Vogel, 93rd ARS commander. "We wanted something we could work on together as a team, and we wanted to make a visible difference in a single day."

The Airmen spent 11 hours helping remove an old roof and install a new one, dug post holes and mixed cement to lay brand new vinyl fencing, trimmed trees around the home, cleared plants that were overgrown on both sides of the home and leveled and prepared the back yard for sod.

"We wanted to do something great for our amazing community because they do so much for our Airmen at Fairchild," Vogel said. "The best part is seeing the before-and-after pictures of the home."

"I'm elated and excited," said Rosey Hoffman, resident of the home. "Never in my life would I have thought Airmen would come out and do this work. This is wonderful there was the amount of people involved in what I needed done."

This experience is one the 93rd won't forget. It really lets the squadron members know their efforts in the local community make a difference, Vogel said.
