The current Airman Leadership School class took on some of Fairchild's chief master sergeants and first sergeants May 11, 2016, at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash.

Both sides played with strong teamwork, and that's one thing that volleyball games can do for everyone involved, but more specifically, the younger Airmen are provided a good example of teamwork, said Chief Master Sgt. Dave Bishop, 141st Air Refueling Wing command chief.

"I think what it does is it allows the ALS students to see their leadership kind of in an unofficial capacity, kind peers competing against one another. I think that's good for them," said Tech. Sgt. David Sayre, Airman Leadership instructor.

Each ALS class plays a volleyball game against the chief master sergeants and first sergeants. As a whole, a volleyball game between ALS and chief master sergeants and first sergeants is an Air Force tradition on many bases.

According to Bishop, communication is a topic in many of the Professional Development courses here at Fairchild. With a volleyball game, you can see how basic communication is critical.

"The Airmen of ALS mentor themselves as formal and informal leaders. They have their class leaders who are the formal leaders of that course, but they all mentor each other," Bishop said.

In the end, the chiefs and first sergeants walked away having won all three games played earning bragging rights.
