Airmen competed in a triathlon held at Clear Lake, Wash. on July 20th, proving to themselves and others they are truly fit to fight.

The 92nd Force Support Squadron holds the Clear Lake triathlon every year at the resort south of Medical Lake. More than 30 athletes participated in the event fulfilling their responsibility of staying in shape.

Consisting of a 600 meter swim followed by a 15 mile cycling course then a 5k run, some would say the event is a true test of someone's physical and mental capabilities.

"I'm always up for new challenges and this triathlon was the longest distance I've done so far," said 2nd Lt. James McIntosh, 92nd Comptroller Squadron triathlon participant. "Staying fit is important to me and competing in these events is a good way to keep pushing myself."

Tech. Sgt. Michael Bergquist, Air National Guard, finished in first place for the male elite category. While his wife, Staff Sgt. Amanda Bergquist, 141st Medical Group, finished in first place for the female under 30 category.

"This year we had quite a few returning participants, a few newcomers, and even had senior leadership participate overall the event was a great success," said Staff Sgt. Austin Coleman, 92nd FSS special events coordinator. "I take great pride in being able to provide a unique event like the triathlon to promote fitness for our Fairchild family."

Physical fitness is a responsibility of all Airmen, whether you finish in first or last place, it's an accomplishment to just finish the race, added Coleman.

"I salute the FSS, Medical Group and the army of volunteers who made our Clear Lake triathlon a success ... as Airmen, we Fly, Fight and Win," said Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "I saw many athletes 'Flying' and I certainly saw dozens of winners, Fairchild is certainly fit to fight!"
