Fairchild hosts Family Recognition Day Published Aug. 13, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Janelle Patiño 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Fairchild families are invited to come out and see what Airmen do on a daily basis during a Family Recognition Day at hangars two and four in building 2050 Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. "The purpose of the event is to allow families a rare opportunity to see what Team Fairchild's Airmen do every day," said Capt. Ian Shelley, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander's action group chief. "And in turn say thank you for all of their support." Fairchild Family Recognition Day was made possible by the hard work of Fairchild's Airmen and multiple base agencies, and will include several displays families can enjoy and learn about. "The event will include a static display of a KC-135 Stratotanker, a security forces display, a fire department display, an explosive ordnance disposal display, a medical display and an aircrew flight equipment display," said Shelley. "Along with the security forces and fire department displays, there will also be a military working dog and live firefighter demonstration, High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, multiple heavy-equipment vehicles, face painting, Sparky the Dog, and a Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape display." Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, hopes the Fairchild family is able to participate in this fun and exciting event, scheduled before school starts to maximize the opportunity for kids to see what Airmen do. "This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the amazing support that the families of Fairchild's Airmen provide," Newberry said. "With the cancellation of the May air show due to sequester, this is a chance for our Airmen to give back to our families who support our noble mission 365 days a year. Family Recognition Day is a day to thank our foundation... the family. Come on out and celebrate!" For more information about the event, call Capt. Shelley at (509) 247-1094. This event is only open to people with base access.
