Financial Readiness Program helps Airmen Published Aug. 20, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Ryan Zeski 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Managing finances can be difficult, and that's why the Airman and Family Readiness Center has the Community Action Plan. The plan includes tracking personal financial readiness to help Airmen and their families properly maintain their money and avoid debt. The goal of the Financial Readiness Program at the A&FRC is to help Department of Defense members and their families become better managers of their household income and assets. They also teach skills that can be applied so Airmen and their families can live within their means. "We strive to teach skills to eliminate poor financial decisions that may hinder or become distractions from accomplishing the mission," said Chris Marble, 92nd Force Support Squadron. Financial preparedness is introduced during the First-Term Airmen Course that all Airmen attend to help transition between a training and operation environment. The class provides information about financial stability and reaching goals. The A&FRC provides Air Force accredited counselors who are available for individual or family counseling. Classes are held every other Wednesday from 2 - 4 p.m. for people moving off-base and are recommended at least two months prior to moving. "The information provided is potentially life changing," said Marble. "The knowledge gained is applied and folks stay disciplined, all they have to do is watch their money grow." For more information on personal finance management, registering for a class or to talk with a counselor contact the A&FRC at (509) 247-2246.
