Critical days of summer comes to an end

Every year when summer activity is increased, the number of mishaps follow suit. These critical days of summer have been identified by the Air Force and as a counter, a campaign is held every year. As summer comes to a close, the Critical Days of Summer come to an end.

"Our goal is to help Airmen be aware of the safety hazards and understand what they can do to prevent these accidents, both on and off duty," said Mark Rupert, 92nd Air Refueling Wing ground safety manager.

As the summer season comes to an end, Rupert says Fairchild did well with no major mishaps.

With 62 minor mishaps in fiscal year 2012, Fairchild has had 48 so far this year. But there is always room for improvement.

"Sports and outdoor recreational activities both on and off duty is the main cause for injuries," said Rupert. "Another issue Team Fairchild needs to be aware of is traffic safety. The number one killer of Airmen outside combat is motor vehicle mishaps."

With the fall and winter months approaching, drivers should be aware of the risks associated. The Wing Safety Office holds a fall and winter safety holiday campaign to help Team Fairchild be aware of these hazards.
