Team Fairchild recently welcomed Julie Sowa as the new veterinarian at the clinic on base.

Sowa graduated from Colorado State University and has been a veterinarian for over ten years now.

With her schedule here only part-time, she also works part-time at an emergency vet clinic in Yakima, Wash.

Sowa said that they hope to have set hours starting at the beginning of next year, but for now they alternate each week.

"I'm here Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. one week," Sowa said. "Then the next week I will only work Thursday."

Services offered remain the same; however, she said they hope to expand services when the new building is built.

"I hope to start offering acupuncture and chiropractic services," said Sowa. "Studies show those both aid in the lessening of pain and ease of allergies."

The new veterinary clinic is set to start construction in the beginning of 2014, right next to the current building.

The clinic tries to provide as many services as possible during open hours for retired and active-duty personnel, along with Department of Defense civilians. Some of these services include:

· Feline and canine spay and neutering on a limited basis dependent upon the animal's age and the discretion of the veterinarian
· Well-pet exams
· Micro-chipping
· Vaccinations
· International health certificates

For more information of services offered or to make an appointment, contact the veterinary clinic at 509-247-2583.
