Due to the government shutdown that went into effect at midnight on Oct. 1., several agencies have closed and DOD civilians have been furloughed until further notice.

The morning of Oct. 1, all Fairchild personnel reported for duty. All non-excepted DOD personnel received furlough notices directing the furlough. DOD non-excepted service personnel placed on emergency, no-notice, non-pay furloughs will not receive retroactive pay unless appropriated by Congress in other legislative actions.

Effective immediately, the base library, pre-teen and teen center are closed. Library patrons are asked to keep checked out items until reopening. Hours of operation for the Child Development Center and Youth Center will remain normal.

The Commissary remained open Oct. 1 to sell perishable items, but closed Oct. 2. It will remain closed until the government shutdown is resolved.

Other Morale Welfare and Recreation activities across base may have reduced hours based on fiscal restraints. All other Force Support Squadron facilities are operational. This includes the Funspot, Arts and Crafts center, Outdoor Recreation and the Auto Hobby shop.

Private sector care under TRICARE will continue, as will inpatient, acute and emergency outpatient care in medical/dental treatment facilities. All personnel are encouraged to contact their local treatment facility to confirm services and appointments.

"I thank all of Team Fairchild, both civilians and uniformed for their incredible patience and professionalism," said Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "Our calling to fuel freedom has not changed. We will persevere and continue the mission asked of us."
