Run for your lives, zombies are coming Published Oct. 15, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Janelle Patiño 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- On Oct. 22, the infected will take over. The Fairchild Airman's Running Team will be hosting a zombie run with a theme, "Run for Your Life," beginning and ending at the Funspot and will start at 6 p.m. The Halloween run will be FART's third zombie run. Participants should be prepared to run away from brain-hungry, virus-spreading zombies. "The Zombie Run is a fun run 5k," said Staff Sgt. Sean Devereaux, 92nd Medical Operations Squadron physical therapy craftsman and FART vice president. "We want to promote the team and give people an opportunity to actually have fun while running." During the event, each runner will be given two flag belts which will represent their lives. They have to avoid zombies from taking their lives in order to win. Runners who run from start to finish with at least one flag belt intact are the survivors of the "zombie apocalypse." "The zombies, played by volunteers, will want to take your flags and maybe eat your brains," said Devereaux. "If you lose all your health flags, you are infected with the zombie virus, and the zombies win." Runners are encouraged to dress accordingly to the weather, but Zombie Run shirts will also be available for purchase at the event. Everyone is invited to join this year's zombie run. According to Devereaux, walkers, strollers and even pets are all welcome to join the running team. "Runner or not, this run is a blast," Devereaux said. "The whole time you're just trying to 'survive'. Last year, we had over 100 people come out." FART is a running team organized to give people an opportunity to get to know other Fairchild personnel and promote fitness at the same time. Participants usually meet every Tuesday around 5 p.m. at the Funspot for a two to three mile run. For more information about FART and the Zombie Run, call Staff Sgt. Sean Devereaux at 509-247-5882.
