Combined Federal Campaign back in business

Following a brief suspension due to the government shutdown earlier this month, the Fairchild Combined Federal Campaign has resumed. Government workers, including military members, can contribute a portion of their pay to charitable causes.

Agencies that benefit from the CFC include, but are not limited to, those that provide food items to needy families, such as Second Harvest, and assistance with the transport of an active duty member back from the area of responsibility when a family member has fallen ill, such as the Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross. Base organizations such as the Teen Center are also rewarded by the CFC.

"The CFC provides us all with an opportunity to identify one or more helping agencies that we feel could really make an impact on someone in need," said Capt. Matthew Willerick, Fairchild CFC program officer. "All of these agencies rely on donations such as those provided by Team Fairchild during the CFC."

This year's Fairchild CFC began Oct. 1 with a kick-off event at the base chapel. The program was put on hold Oct. 17 prior to restarting Oct. 23 once the shutdown had ended.

"We are not looking to break any records with donation amounts," Willerick said. "However, we are hoping for every person on base to take a look at what they have and what they would be able and willing to give back to help someone else, even if it is just a few dollars a month."

A new addition to the process this year is donating through myPay. Donors are asked to use the local campaign code of 0924 to ensure donations are making their way to the right vendor. The paper option is still available.

"Pay it forward and see our world change for the positive," said Master Sgt. Royce McElroy, CFC program senior noncommissioned officer. "Get involved."
