Team Fairchild members and veterans from the community gathered in Hangar 2 for a ceremony Nov. 7 to celebrate the coming Veterans Day.

Veterans listened as Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, spoke about why veterans are important and the sacrifices they make for their country.

"The 92nd ARW honors all our veterans," said Newberry. "Our veterans have given us a torch we now have the privilege to carry. We are proud to salute our grand ole flag and we are proud to be Americans."

Newberry also gave his thanks to veterans for their service to the noble cause of freedom.

Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to receive a tour of military vehicles and equipment used in today's Air Force while enjoying coffee and other refreshments.

As well, an assembly was formed in the spirit of Veterans Day at the Michael Anderson Elementary School on base Nov. 8.

Children and faculty gathered to hear students of the school choir perform patriotic songs and children gave speeches about who their hero is.

"Team Fairchild is grateful that we are able to honor our veterans of past wars and pay tribute to those who have served in the Inland Northwest," said Capt. Christopher Smith, commander's action group chief. "We wanted to say thank you to our community members who have given so much to our country and let them know that Team Fairchild is behind them. Our success and security today has been created by the generations of veterans before us, and for that we are eternally thankful."
