Be a better Airman through the Enlisted Mentoring Program Published Nov. 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Janelle Patiño 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- One hour each month is all it takes for the 92nd Medical Group to help and train future leaders through their Enlisted and Officer Professional Development Program. Enlisted and Officer Professional Development is a mentorship program where 92nd MDG personnel take time to discuss topics relevant to the specific corps or current events in the Air Force. "We conduct our monthly training every third Wednesday of the month," said Chief Master Sgt. Lance Turner, 92nd MDG superintendent. "We do our best to educate the next generation of leaders and prepare them to take our place." There are currently 160 enlisted members in the 92nd MDG, and there are typically 100 participants during each session. All enlisted medics are welcome and there is no signing up involved. "We use different models; one example is speed mentoring where there are five different briefers for five different topics and get about ten minutes to brief each topic," said Turner. "This keeps things moving and Airmen enjoy it." According to Turner, he wants his lowest ranking Airmen to understand where they fit into the mission and how they contribute to the mission of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing. "We have recently talked about the Developmental Special Duties program during our last session," said Turner. "Some other topics that are discussed include assignments, promotion testing and preparation techniques." Being the superintendent of the 92nd MDG since 2012, Turner has been given the opportunity to keep the program going and has successfully helped Airmen understand how they contribute to the mission. "The challenge of leaders today is finding creative ways to motivate and inspire our Airmen to become the leaders that our Air Force needs for the challenges that we will face tomorrow," said Turner. "The program is one way to reach out and help educate our Airmen." For more information about the 92nd MDG's Enlisted and Officer Professional Development Program, call Chief Turner at 509-247-4724.
