Massage therapist returns to Fairchild Published March 3, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Janelle Patiño 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Team Fairchild welcomed back Mary Doucet as the new massage therapist at the Fitness Center. After receiving her license, Doucet started out a massage chair at the Base Exchange and went on from there. "I searched for a place on base where I could get a chance to do regular massages for Fairchild personnel and found the old fitness center," said Doucet. "They gave me my own office there and that's where I gave massages for about seven or eight years." Being a massage therapist on and off base has been Doucet's full-time job ever since. "I know every single job in and out of the military can be stressful and since Fairchild is closest to my heart I wanted to offer something that could help them relax and distress," she said. "I felt like it's something I needed to do... something I could offer to the military." Becoming a massage therapist was an unexpected passion for Doucet. With her husband being in the Air Force at the time and having to move several times, she wanted a stable job. "When we moved here, I decided to explore my options and find an enjoyable passion," said Doucet. "I then decided to take an introductory course on massage and loved it." According to Doucet, it gave her a feeling of satisfaction knowing that she was helping a lot of people go home happy and relaxed after a long day at work. "Seeing my clients' stress free faces after every massage session is such a relief to me," she said. "I know in that moment this is what I was meant to do." Doucet chose to be in Fairchild because she wanted to help base personnel by doing massages close to their homes. "I want people to be able to go home and still feel stress-free without having to travel far," she said. "I basically am bringing the service to them." Doucet provides hot stone massages to clients for 30, 60 or 90-minute sessions. "I am thankful for how busy I have gotten ever since I started working on base and it makes me feel I've accomplished what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to be," said Doucet. "This is a dream come true for me." For more information and to set an appointment, contact Mary Doucet at (509) 475-3177.
