Fairchild's Clear Lake resort officially opened April 26.

A 12-hour fishing derby was held on opening day, starting the event at midnight and going till noon on Saturday with breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m.

"With the turn of weather, we are excited to open one of Fairchild's hidden gems, Clear Lake," said Col. Brian Newberry, the 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "Our force support squadron and outdoor recreation team pull out all the stops to give our Airmen and their families an outlet to relax during the summer months and get away from the hustle and bustle of the flightline. We, as a base, certainly work hard for America--Clear Lake gives us an option to play hard, too."

Clear Lake Recreation Area provides fishing, water skiing, swimming and boating for off-duty Fairchild Air Force Base personnel, including active duty, retired military, National Guard, active members of the Reserves, Department of Defense civilian employees and family members.

The resort also offers picnic areas and camping opportunities, including RV sites and cabins. Boat rentals are also available.

Clear Lake is located at S. 14824 Clear Lake Road, Cheney, WA 99004. The recreation area's last day open for the year is Sept. 5.
