  • 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs
Name: Senior Airman Neal D. Troyer

Unit: 22nd Training Squadron

Duty title: Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Specialist

What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild Air Force Base? I do resistance training for SV80A Operations.

What do you enjoy about your job? Taking pride in being qualified and able to train individuals in high risk situations to return with honor and be confident in their abilities that I helped instill.

Why did you choose to serve in the military? Ultimately, I take pride in signing on the dotted line and being a member of the greatest military in the world. I am ready to give the ultimate sacrifice for my country and look forward to everything the military has to offer.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Graduating from SERE Specialist Training.

What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at Fairchild Air Force Base? I want to win Airman of the Year 2014, finish my CCAF Degree before the end of FY2014, earn my Master Instructor Badge, receive my associate's degree in Health Fitness Technician and purchase a house.

What is your favorite quote? "You get what you put in, and people get what they deserve."

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her? Master Sgt. Cross (Retired). He taught me the importance of trust and the benefit of hard work. He put extreme faith in his subordinates and let you learn from your mistakes. He always said, "You learn much more from your mistakes than you ever will from successes." He consistently led by example and worked hand in hand with his men underneath him, showing devotion and actual concern and care for our personal well-being. Ultimately, he was an individual that led from the front and I wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am today without his example and mentorship.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why? I want to spend it with Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue. He had an extremely rough upbringing and had absolutely nothing by the age of 15. He was homeless and even without any mentorship or positive influence; he built an incredible career and life for himself through no outside influence. He didn't accept failure and strove to his highest potential to achieve what he always wanted simply by being determined and following his dreams.
