Technical sergeant promotion via video teleconference

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  Kevin Ritter was STEP promoted to technical sergeant Saturday during a video teleconference meeting with Col. Scott Hanson, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander.

Sergeant Ritter, 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron NCO in charge of customer service, was in Southwest Asia. Colonel Hanson was in the Fairchild command post.

Chief Master Sgt. Mark Luzader, 92nd ARW command chief, Tech. Sgt. Faye Ritter, 92nd Contracting Squadron, who is Kevin's wife, and others were present for the event.

Kevin Ritter was kept in the dark about the event. He is described as always knowing what to say. "When he found out, he was at a loss for words," said Faye.

The surprise wasn't shared with Faye either. She found out just minutes before her husband did. She was reporting to the command post thinking she was attending a meeting about deployment taskings.

"I actually was told by Col. Van Fuller, 92nd Mission Support Group commander, when he shook my hand and expressed congratulations for my husband," she said.

Faye said the promotion had a positive impact on her husband and he is looking forward to progressing further.
