National Prayer Breakfast unites Americans worldwide Published Jan. 18, 2007 92nd Air Refueling Wing Chapel FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- For more than 50 years, this nation has been praying as one ... officially. On Feb. 1, we'll continue that trend with the National Prayer Breakfast. Originally called the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, the annual dedicated prayer time started with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his Congress members in 1953. Since then, the practice has grown steadily. The military first observed the breakfast in 1972, and the tradition continues each year at bases around the world. This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the event. The breakfast will start at 7:30 a.m. at Club Fairchild, and is open to everyone as an inter-faith event. Tickets, $5 for club members and $7 for non-members, are on sale through unit representatives or at the chapel office. Dress is uniform of the day. Call the chapel, 247-2264, for more information.
