AFI 36-2903, did you know? Published April 18, 2007 By Senior Master Sgt. Kevin Curtis 18th Air Force first sergeant FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Are you meeting the Air Force fitness standard? You may think this is a simple answer: either you are poor, marginal, good or excellent. In reality, it is not so simple. AFI 10-248, Fitness Program, states that a professional military image may or may not directly relate to an individual's fitness level or weight. Furthermore, AFI 36-2903 requires that Air Force members present a professional military image/appearance while in uniform. Unfortunately, not all military members present a professional image while in uniform because we are ignoring the standard. Did you know commanders may place a non-professional looking Airman on the Fitness Improvement Program? How to you look in your uniform? Professional? Should you wait for you commander, first sergeant, or supervisor to make the call or are you willing to step it up and be a professional? As Airmen, we are required to know and abide by the standards. In the end, physical fitness will directly effect how well we can deploy, defend and defeat the enemy. The standards have been set; individuals and supervisors are responsible for meeting the standards. Will you meet or exceed them? Will you enforce them?
