141st ARW Command Post Honored Published May 14, 2007 By Senior Airman Crystal Tyler 141st Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Members of the 141st Air Refueling Wing command post were recently recognized for their outstanding contributions to the wing by being awarded Air National Guard Command Post of the Year. Senior Master Sgt. Shawn Youngman was also named ANG Command Post Senior Controller of the Year, and Master Sgt. Carl Golden was awarded the Armed Forces Person of the Year Senior non-commissioned officer in the Guard/Reserve category. In 2006, the Command Post received numerous "outstanding" ratings from the Air Mobility Command Inspector General and two "Best Seen to Date" from the 18th Air Force staff assistant visit. They had excellent coordination with the host unit command post and ensured efficient relay of emergency action messages for rapid aircrew compliance. They provided critical communications support for the governor of Washington during Western Washington floods. Training was another large factor in winning the award. All of the 14 aircrews tested (42 aircrew members) passed the command and control procedures test. The closed book controller test resulted in 97.1 percent average score with four controllers scoring 100 percent. They facilitated 29 training sessions; ensuring 294 personnel were well-versed in the new Global Decision Support System 2 system. Sergeant Youngman was honored with the ANG Command Post Senior Controller of the Year due to his mentoring and professionalism. Despite a 50 percent controller turn-over rate, Sergeant Youngman voluntarily assumed extra duties while providing effective instruction, continuity and mentoring to his five subordinates. In his nomination letter he was regarded as an outstanding senior NCO who sets standards for others to follow, a truly dedicated professional with natural leadership ability. He is an active member in the Enlisted National Guard Association of the United States, Washington Air National Guard Booster Club, and 141st ARW Top Three. Sergeant Youngman also serves as a volunteer with the Coeur d' Alene Hockey Association and Winton Elementary school. Sergeant Golden is the command post training manager and was nominated for Senior NCO of the Guard/Reserve category for the Armed Forces Person of the Year by the Military Affairs Committee of Greater Spokane Inc. because of his superb job knowledge, attention to detail and ability to get the job done right the first time. He directly contributed to the wing and command post's overall "outstanding" rating during the 2006 Operational Readiness Inspection. He was an emergency action team member for exercises and the inspection, accurately processing and relaying time-critical emergency action messages. He is also a Boy Scout scoutmaster with over 2,000 hours of service, a commissioner on the Cheney Parks and Recreation Board and executive secretary for his church. Congratulations to the outstanding men and women of the 141st ARW command post.
